The Homelessness Vigil is a free, community-wide event to raise awareness of the issues of homelessness in the Upstate, and to recognize the struggles of those who have experienced homelessness, those who are currently experiencing homelessness, and those who have died in a state of homelessness. The Haven, in collaboration with other local agencies, offers shelter and supportive services to these individuals in an attempt to facilitate their transitions out of homelessness and into healthy, stable living environments. The success of these programs, however, is only as strong as the community which supports them.
The purpose of the Vigil is for our Upstate communities to come together to better understand the devastating impact that homelessness has on our city, our region, and our nation. The event is attended by individuals who are currently experiencing homelessness, as well as those who have never even come close. We hope to adjust misconceptions about homelessness by putting new faces on the issue: the faces of our families, our neighbors, and our friends.
