Capital Campaign

In 2009, as South Carolina found itself dealing with the effects of crippling unemployment and a foreclosure rate three times the national average, The Haven experienced an incredible increase in requests for services. That year, 356 families came to our door seeking shelter. 299 were turned away. We knew then that The Haven needed to expand to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population – families experiencing homelessness. We embarked on a four-year Capital Campaign, “A New Hope, A New Haven” to raise $400,000 for the purchase of a new and much larger shelter. In November of 2009, we moved into our new facility on South Church Street!

Here are some of our favorite features at the new shelter:

• Living space of approximately 9,000 sq. feet
• Increased capacity from 27 beds to 42 beds
• Seven bathrooms
• Large common areas for beneficiaries
• Expanded staff office space to ensure privacy
• Large, safe fenced-in playground and indoor playroom for children
• Classroom and computer lab
